To Further Defend...

They are asking the question, "Why Hip Hop?" We are asking the question, "Why not Hip Hop?"...

Over the years every Christian has dealt with the question, "What does it look like to invade culture with God's view point?" One of the things that Jesus Christ wants, based on Colossians 1:19-23 is to bring everything to subjection under his feet and that includes culture. So just like the first century Christians dealt with Hellenism we deal with Hip Hop. In 2 Peter chapter 1, Peter deals with different issues in Hellenistic philosophy which definitely had unredeemable components. But what he did was he coped some titles of things that looked like Christian character and said, “Oh, this is reusable because God even says this stuff.” What we want to add to it is Jesus and faith. When you look at verses one through four he wants to invade it with Jesus and faith. And what happens when you invade it with those two things they are instantly redeemable. And once they are instantly redeemable, you are speaking the gospel in the language of the people that God has called us to reach.

And so what we have to do is not push away from Hip Hop Culture, but see how we can develop indigenous missionaries to invade it for his name sake. Just like Jesus invaded time from heaven to become incarnate and speak the gospel in the language of the people. That is what we need to be able to do. We need to see people go back, back into culture, not just put them in the four walls of a church, but go back into culture to invade it and inject it with Gods viewpoint, Gods way of thinking, Gods way of doing things.

Thank you for addressing this cultural phenomenon. It is helpful for me to hear a fellow Christian's take on it all.

"Invade the culture." I think I will meditate on that for a bit and get back to you.
